As technology becomes more and more advanced we lose track of how far we have come. Forty years ago no one knew what a cell phone was and wireless items were extremely uncommon. Now we are in the age where cell phones have become ubiquitous and wireless technology controls our every move. What will phones be like in the future?

There are many exciting new concepts being developed by companies. Whether or not these are feasible within the next 10 years or 100 years the technology will eventually be here. One new concept is a total glass phone which will be nearly invisible to anyone but the owner when in use. It will reflect the weather conditions and you can use your finger to draw out texts and phone numbers. Another nearly see through phone would let us see things in 3D. Turning your data into holograms would make using a phone a totally new experience. Imagine the technology in the sci-fi movies on your phone.

Some other future designs are more functional. There are concept phones that can wrap around your wrist or use the sunlight as energy. These phones would not only be more useful, but they would be easy to use and carry around. Another functional design is one by a Emir Rafat called the “Packet” phone. This phone would start out only being 5 cm wide and tall but it would fold out to a much larger design. The more you fold out the more options you get.

New conceptual ideas are also going towards more of a simplistic design. A phone called the “Dial” is just what it says it is. A metallic colored ring that brings the user back to the olden days of using a rotary phone. Another simplistic phone design in disguise is the pen phone. It’s extremely thin and light and it will turn many heads on the street.

The future holds many new ideas, and cell phones might look entirely different in a few decades. From the block cell phone in the 80s to the extremely smart phones of today it is easy to see how far we have come, but it is difficult to see into the future. Don’t be surprised if one of these concepts end up in your hands. Anything is possible.
